Admission
General Requirements for Admission to the MSACS Program
Admission is primarily based on previous college transcripts and work experience documented in a resume. The successful applicant should have either industry experience in a computing-related position or a degree in a computing field (CS, CE, IS, IT, SE).
  1. An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required.
    • The Classic Cohort (Fall only) track is open to various majors with appropriate backgrounds who can master the foundations, and is not restricted to undergraduate degrees in science and engineering.
    • The more traditionial Hybrid Cohort (Fall and Spring admission) requires a degree in a computing discipline (CS, CE, IS, IT, SE).
    • Transcripts are required for admission.
    • International applicants must have their transcripts evaluated.

  2. Minimum cumulative undergraduate adjusted GPA of 2.85 on a 4.0 scale is desired.

  3. Experience in the computing industry is desired. A resume is required for admission. Experience can include both part-time and full-time.

  4. GRE score, or GMAT score, or prior graduate degree is required of all graduate students at KSU.
    • Students may substitute the GMAT for the GRE.
    • Students who already hold a graduate degree are exempt from the GRE requirement.
    • GRE is required but will not be used for admission evaluation into the MSACS Classic Cohort, which is based on work experience and coursework.
    • The GRE score will also be considered for students who elect to do the optional thesis in the more traditional Hybrid Cohort.
    • You can arrange to take the GRE at a number of locations: GRE

  5. Coursework or experience-acquired knowlege of the following knowledge areas is needed:
    1. basic mathematics
    2. physical science (basic electricity/electronics)
    3. computer programming
    4. computer systems
Work experience, other coursework, and approved self-study programs can selectively replace certain prerequisite knowledge foundations at the discretion of the Program Director with demonstration of student competency in the knowledge area. The MSACS offers online self-study short courses in selected areas.

  6. International Students must submit a TOEFL score, and have valid Immunization Certificate for measles, mumps, rubella.
