General Requirements for Admission to the MSACS Program
Admission is primarily based on previous college transcripts and work experience documented in a resume.
The successful applicant should have either industry experience in a computing-related
position or a degree in a computing field (CS, CE, IS, IT, SE).
- An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required.
- The Classic Cohort (Fall only) track is open to various majors with appropriate backgrounds who can master the foundations,
and is not restricted to undergraduate degrees in science and engineering.
- The more traditionial Hybrid Cohort (Fall and Spring admission) requires a degree in a computing discipline (CS, CE, IS, IT, SE).
- Transcripts are required for admission.
- International applicants must have their transcripts evaluated.
- Minimum cumulative undergraduate adjusted GPA of 2.85 on a 4.0 scale is desired.
- Experience in the computing industry is desired. A resume is required for admission. Experience can include both part-time and full-time.
- GRE score, or GMAT score, or prior graduate degree is required of all graduate students at KSU.
- Students may substitute the GMAT for the GRE.
- Students who already hold a graduate degree are exempt from the GRE requirement.
- GRE is required but will not be used for admission evaluation into the MSACS Classic Cohort, which is based on work experience and coursework.
- The GRE score will also be considered for students who elect to do the optional thesis in the more traditional Hybrid Cohort.
- You can arrange to take the GRE at a number of locations: GRE
- Coursework or experience-acquired knowlege of the following knowledge areas is needed:
- basic mathematics
- physical science (basic electricity/electronics)
- computer programming
- computer systems
Work experience, other coursework, and approved self-study programs can selectively replace certain prerequisite knowledge foundations at the discretion of the Program Director with demonstration of student competency in the knowledge area.
The MSACS offers online self-study short courses in selected areas.
- International Students must submit a TOEFL score, and have valid Immunization Certificate for measles, mumps, rubella.
