MSACS Assistantship Policies
MSACS Assistantships and projects can originate in a number of ways:
- Faculty may create a project related to their research interests.
- Students may propose a project to a faculty member.
- Funded grants often include graduate assistantships.
In general:
- The best approach for students, is to review any posted assistantships and review the research interests of our
graduate computer science faculty.
- Then, contact the faculty member who will direct the project, and propose and
request their time to direct the research project.
- An assistantship project proposal must be generated, by the student and faculty member.
- The assistantship project proposal will be submitted to the MSACS program director for his approval.
- Assistanthips require a short report at the end of each semester, to go to both the faculty member serving
as project director, and to the MSACS Director.
MSACS Graduate Assistant Kronos Timesheets:
Completing a bi-weekly timesheet in the online Kronos system is a requirement of the assistantship appointment.
When you accept an assistantship, you are agreeing to follow the rules and requirements of the posistion, which includes the following:
-
MSACS GA-1 students must submit timesheets with no more than 14 hours on a bi-weekly timesheet (average of 7 hours per week).
- MSACS GA-2 students must submit timesheets with no more than 26 hours on a bi-weekly timesheet (average of 13 hours per week).
- Time sheets cannot show hours on a holiday or on a Sunday.
- Time sheets cannot show more than 8 hours per day (to avoid overtime issues).
- Students must complete their timesheet in Kronos by the Thursday preceding the second Friday in the two-week timesheet pay period.
- Your time spent filling out your timesheet can be included as paid work.
